Every year, we invite the winners of the Rabkin Prize into a conversation about their work and ideas, creating a valuable archive for the field. Our desire is to humanize and make visible the labors of arts writers. 

The interviews are conducted by journalist and executive director Mary Louise Schumacher and paired with portraits by artist-photographer Kevin J. Miyazaki, who photographs the writers in the spaces where they write and think. A point of inspiration for the portraits was Jill Krementz’ 1996 book The Writer’s Desk. We know the writing life looks very different today and want to investigate that.
