Kaelen Wilson-Goldie is a writer and critic with nearly three decades of international experience and an abiding interest in the relationship between art and politics. She is the author of Etel Adnan (Lund Humphries Publishers Ltd., 2018) and Beautiful, Gruesome, and True: Artists at Work in the Face of War (Columbia Global Reports, 2022), which the critic Holland Cotter named one of the best art books of 2022. Wilson-Goldie’s criticism has appeared in 4Columns, Afterall, Aperture, Art Journal, Bookforum, e-flux, Mousse Magazine, The New York Times, and The Village Voice, among other publications. A contributing editor of Bidoun, a magazine-turned-publishing project devoted to art and culture in the Middle East, she was a correspondent for Artforum for 17 years and wrote a column for Frieze tracing the upheavals of the Arab Spring. Previously a magazine editor in New York, Wilson-Goldie worked as a staff reporter and the arts and culture editor of The Daily Star, an English-language newspaper based in Beirut and distributed with The International Herald Tribune. She received an Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant in 2013 and was a practitioner-in-residence at New York University’s Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies in 2022. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Columbia University, and the American University of Beirut, she has taught courses in criticism and contemporary art at universities and art schools including, most recently, Stony Brook University on Long Island, N.Y., and HEAD-Genève in Geneva. Wilson-Goldie calls New York City and Beirut home and is currently based in Geneva, where she lives with her husband and two children.
